Gospel Reflection
How blest are those who are poor in spirit:
the kingdom of heaven is theirs.
How blest are the sorrowful:
they shall find consolation.
How blest are those of a gentle spirit:
they shall have the earth for their possession.
How blest are those who hunger and thirst to see right prevail:
they shall be satisfied.
How blest are those who show mercy:
mercy shall be shown to them.
How blest are those whose hearts are pure:
they shall see God.
How blest are the peacemakers:
they shall be called children of God.
How blest are those who have suffered persecution
for the cause of right:
the kingdom of heaven is theirs.
How blest are those who follow Jesus
and the Saviour’s command to love.
Gospel Reading - Jesus heals Gentiles

24Then he left Galilee and went to the region of Tyre and Sidon,a and tried to keep it a secret that he was there, but couldn’t. For as usual the news of his arrival spread fast.
25 Right away a woman came to him whose little girl was possessed by a demon. She had heard about Jesus and now she came and fell at his feet, 26and pled with him to release her child from the demon’s control. (But she was Syrophoenician — a “despised Gentile”!)
27Jesus told her, “First I should help my own family—the Jews.b It isn’t right to take the children’s food and throw it to the dogs.”
28She replied, “That’s true, sir, but even the puppies under the table are given some scraps from the children’s plates.”
29“Good!” he said. “You have answered well—so well that I have healed your little girl. Go on home, for the demon has left her!”
30And when she arrived home, her little girl was lying quietly in bed, and the demon was gone.

- Literally, “Let the children eat first.”
The Lord's Prayer
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial
and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours
now and for ever.
Amen.
