Prayer in Hope

God of hope,
We turn to You for hope.
You are the source of all hope
and the light that shines in the darkness.
Your Word reminds us that You are our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.

God of hope, fill us with endurance today.
Hold our hearts and steady our feet.
Instead of placing our hope in better circumstances,
help us to find our hope in Your loving presence with us,
guiding us and helping us.
Amen.

Gospel Reading - The Beatitudes

²⁰Then he looked up at his disciples and said:

‘Blessed are you who are poor,
       for yours is the kingdom of God.
²¹‘Blessed are you who are hungry now,
       for you will be filled.
‘Blessed are you who weep now,
       for you will laugh.

²²‘Blessed are you when people hate you, and when they exclude you, revile you, and defame you^a on account of the Son of Man. ²³Rejoice on that day and leap for joy, for surely your reward is great in heaven; for that is what their ancestors did to the prophets.

Prayer for our Freedom and Salvation by the Spirit

We come before You, acknowledging our weakness.
There are moments when we truly do not know
what we should pray for, or even how to speak.
We thank You that Your Holy Spirit intercedes for us
with groans that words cannot express.
You, who search our hearts,
know exactly what the Spirit is saying.
We find peace knowing the Spirit prays for us perfectly,
according to Your divine will.

Holy Spirit, come to us today and renew our whole being.
Enkindle Your fire among us, within our communities,
and within us.

Come, O quickly, O Holy Spirit.
Come, we pray, unite our hearts.
Come, O quickly, O Holy Spirit.
Come, we pray, increase our faith
Amen.
