Gospel Reflection

Kings lord it over their subjects,
but with us the highest must be like the lowest,
the chief like a servant.

Come to Jesus, all those whose work is hard,
whose load is heavy,
and you will be renewed.

Gospel Reading - The home of Martha and Mary

thumb

38As Jesus and the disciples continued on their way to Jerusalema they came to a village where a woman named Martha welcomed them into her home. 39Her sister Mary sat on the floor, listening to Jesus as he talked.

40But Martha was the jittery type and was worrying over the big dinner she was preparing.

She came to Jesus and said, “Sir, doesn’t it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me.”

41But the Lord said to her, “Martha, dear friend,b you are so upset over all these details! 42There is really only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it — and I won’t take it away from her!”

. . . . .Luke 10:38-42
  1. Implied
  2. Literally, “Martha, Martha.”

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father in heaven,
     hallowed be your name,
     your kingdom come,
     your will be done,
          on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial
     and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours
     now and for ever.
Amen.
